Ascus Pap
An ASCUS pap is usually caused by the HPV virus that causes a penile wart or veneral wart.
Risk assessment and repeat tests were generally performed, however, women unaware of cancer-type HPV exposure became a risk for progressive cervical problems including cancer and invasive surgical procedures. Today, additional tests such as HPV DNA test (Hybrid capture) can aid in avoiding unnecessary surgeries and enhance early treatment successes.

“Squamous cells of undetermined significance” is a term used to describe the lowest grade of cytology interpretation for an abnormality. Sometimes this level is determined to be normal depending upon the clinician. In the past physicians were challenged to treat based on these pathological findings.
