What Is Pap Smear
Simply answered to "what is a pap smear?", it is an early screen for human papillomavirus caused cervical cancer.
Since there may be no signs of cervical cancer, Papanicolaou tests applied on a regular basis may show the presence (or absence) of cancerous cells in the body. A doctor dilates the vaginal opening to take a smear with a plastic or wooden instrument. The sample is then sent to a lab to examine for abnormalities in the cells.
